Free AI image detector for local signal checks
without uploading your file

Run AICheck metadata, watermark, and C2PA evidence checks in your browser. The result reports a numeric evidence score, not certainty or proof of authenticity.

Local by design: Image bytes stay in this browser tab and are not sent to SugarCube.

Check an image’s source clues

PNG, JPEG, or WebP · maximum 20 MB · you can also paste an image

Use the original download when possible. Screenshots and re-saved files can lose useful evidence.

This checks retained evidence, not whether a picture is true. No signals does not mean human-made.

How to use this tool

  1. Choose the original image

Choose a PNG, JPEG or WebP. The check runs locally without sign-in or credits.

  2. Read the separate checks

Read metadata, credential status and pixel clues separately.

  3. Review the evidence and save a report

Review explanations and save JSON if needed. Signals do not prove authenticity.

When image-source clues can help

Signals from an actual scan

Original
Original1440 × 810 · 796.6 KB

This known AI-generated illustration returned no signals, score 0 and an inconclusive result in the actual local scan. No detected evidence does not mean the image was made by a person.

Screen a submitted portrait

Illustrative studio portrait for source-checking context

Inspect the original portrait for source fields before asking the contributor how it was made. Treat the report as a lead for a conversation, not proof about the person.

Document a product asset

Illustrative perfume product image

Check a product image before adding it to a media library. Record the available metadata and keep the supplier’s original files and explanation alongside it.

Investigate a news-style scene

Illustrative fictional community parade scene

Look for retained provenance signals in an event image, then verify the event through its source and other reporting. This tool cannot establish that a pictured event happened.

Organize architectural references

Illustrative architectural concept model

Separate concept renderings from documented project photos in your reference collection. Embedded information can help organize files but does not prove a building exists.

AI image signal check FAQ

Does SugarCube upload my image?
No. This page reads the selected file in your browser and does not send its image contents to SugarCube.
Can a low score prove an image is real?
No. A low score only means this check found weak or no currently supported evidence.
Does this verify C2PA Content Credentials?
Yes, when an embedded manifest is present. The official C2PA browser SDK parses and validates it locally; validation warnings are shown separately.
Do the color and edge views detect AI generation?
No. They are local visual aids and do not contribute to the evidence score.
